“The Ukrainians in Galicia, meanwhile, realized that the disturbances of the spring of 1848 were more than just a renewed attempt by the Poles to restore an independent Poland. They therefore began to assert their rights.” (p 28)

“To create a mouthpiece for Ukrainian demands and to counteract the _Rada Narodowa_, Yakhymovych and the other Ukrainians in Lviv sponsored the organization of a Ukrainian Council, the _Holovna Rus’ka Rada_ which would consist of representatives of various groups of Ukrainians, formulate the basic lines of policy, and coordinate the activity of the Ukrainians in Galicia.” (p 29)
